2.  PRESENT SALARY CAP SPACE:

According to a ProFootballTalk.com report of yesterday, the Ravens are currently $3.558M.  Again, this number would appear to not yet include Bernard Pollard.  This coincides pretty well with the Salary Cap numbers complied by Ravens 24x7.  It is likely that the difference is some sort of unreported Cap adjustment based on prior incentives or some Likely to be Earned Incentive that is counting against this year’s Cap.

Tim -

The rule of 51 counts the 51 highest base salaries and all bonus money - roster bonuses and bonus prorations. That's why the rookies - who are only making $375K, and thus not in the top 51 base salaries - only have their bonus prorations included.

The minimum salary benefit only applies to veterans with 4 or more years of service. Smith, Parmele and Divens all only have 3 years of service time.

Great stuff Brian. I've been trying to find breakdowns on these contracts but nobody's bothered to publish anything. My estimates were actually pretty close, but it's good to see the numbers.

I was looking at your spreadsheet and I was curious about how you're handling the Rookies. It seems you have them not counting against the rule of 51, but then you add in the prorated signing bonus. Why don't they count against the 51? if they did count as just normal 51-players, their impact would be slightly lower because they would push off some 450k contracts instead of their own base of 375k. Maybe i'm missing something here.

Also, I read that M.Smith, Divens, and Parmele, were re-signed for the minimum. If that's the case, shouldn't they count as only $525K like Burgess, Jones, and McKie (before he was cut).

Thanks again!
Thomas

  • 5/24/12: Rookie 2nd round pick Kelechi Osemele took the majority of the first-string repetitions at left guard with Jah Reid rotating in at tackle.
