OWINGS MILLS -- The telephones in the Baltimore Ravens' personnel department have been ringing off the hook ever since veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason's surprising retirement announcement.
Although Mason's decision is far from final, the Ravens are exploring their options with a tryout Friday that includes Drew Bennett, D.J. Hackett and two other mystery receivers.
We've learned that one of those players is an undrafted rookie free agent.
As far as the identity of the other unrestricted free agent receiver coming in to try out, well, here's who it isn't:
Despite some lobbying from their respective agents, the Ravens aren't bringing in Matt Jones, Robert Ferguson or Koren Robinson.
And the Ravens' message of thanks, but no thanks extends to Amani Toomer, Justin McCareins and Tab Perry.
That doesn't necessarily rule those players out from consideration at some point, but it's more likely that they're ranked somewhere on the Ravens' emergency list.
Bennett and Hackett are regarded as the two most high-profile names. The workout is expected to be conducted around lunch time on Friday.
