While locked out Zbikowski delivers knock out

Locked out by NFL owners due to the labor fight, Baltimore Ravens hard-hitting safety Tom Zbikowski delivered a quick knockout in the boxing ring tonight.

Zbikowski scored an easy technical knockout of Richard Bryant despite being outweighed by roughly 30 pounds, winning the fight in the first round at MGM Grand at Las Vegas.

It only took one minute and 45 seconds for Zbikowski to take care of business, earning a $50,000 payday for less than one round of work as he improved to 2-0 for his career.

Fighting at 193 pounds, Zbikowski punished the 225-pound Bryant as he knocked him down with a powerful left to the body to put him away.

"I was looking to get a little more work but you take a win any way you can get it," Zbikowski told Las Vegas reporters. "I know I hurt him with the hook, you could feel the air come out."

This marked Zbikowski's first fight since he was at Notre Dame.

Zbikowski is set to fight again March 26 in Atlantic City.

The Baltimore safety had a nice cheering section with Ravens teammates rooting him on, including secondary mates Ed Reed and Haruki Nakamura, Domonique Foxworth, Chris Carr and Lardarius Webb as well as defensive end Paul Kruger.

Now, Zbikowski will get ready for his next fight. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has been extremely impressed with Zbikowski so far.

While the owners and the players square off in litigation, Zbikowski is going to stay in the boxing ring.

"I wanted to get the ring rust off in this fight," Zbikowski said. "Right now, this isn't a second career for me. It's a first career."

  • 5/24/12: Rookie 2nd round pick Kelechi Osemele took the majority of the first-string repetitions at left guard with Jah Reid rotating in at tackle.
