The Beat with Aaron Wilson - Webb hell bent on being a starter

Webb hell bent on being a starter

Fiercely competitive, Lardarius Webb has no intentions of taking a backseat in the Baltimore Ravens' secondary.

"I'm ready to start," Webb said on Saturday at Derrick Mason's youth football camp. "I'm ready to be the starting cornerback."

After playing a reserve role last season one year removed from tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, Webb said he's fully healthy.

And he's unconcerned about the arrival of first-round cornerback Jimmy Smith having a negative effect on his status.

"I don't want to hear about it," Webb said. "I hear it too much. People act like it affects me. I don't care who the Ravens draft.  They always bring up his name around me. I'm going to play no matter who it is. I just want to be healthy so I can show them who Webb is."

As for the pending free agency of starting cornerbacks Chris Carr and Josh Wilson, Webb said: "That don't affect me. That's their business."

Webb said he enjoys talking with young football players.

"I give them three rules," Webb said. "Keep God first, always do your homework and you'll get the confidence to be anything you want to be, a doctor or a football player or anything."
