The Beat with Aaron Wilson - The 411 on Sam Koch's new deal

Written By:

OWINGS MILLS - Baltimore Ravens punter Sam Koch received a total of $9.5 million in base salaries on his new five-year contract, according to NFL Players Association records.

It's believed Koch got a signing bonus of roughly $2 million for a total value of $11.5 million.

Koch, who made $1.759 million as a restricted free agent last season, is due the following base salaries over the next five years: $1.3 million (2011), $1.6 million (2012), $1.9 million (2013), $2.2 million (2014) and $2.5 million (2015).

While the Pro Bowl alternate's deal falls short of Oakland Raiders Pro Bowl punter Shane Lechler's four-year, $16 million pact that includes $9 million in guaranteed money, Koch's contract does exceed Dallas Cowboys punter Mat McBriar (five years, $8.5 million) and Detroit Lions punter Nick Harris (six years, $9.15 million.

"I think they really stepped up, and we're very pleased with the contract," agent Steve Mudder told Ravens24x7.com. "We think it's a fair deal. We're very excited."

Since the end of the season, the Ravens have locked up their kicking tandem of Koch and kicker Billy Cundiff.

Cundiff signed a five-year, $14.7 million contract that included a $3 million signing bonus.

The base salaries for Cundiff's contract include $1.5 million in 2011, $2.2 million in 2012, $2.3 million in 2013, $2.7 million in 2014 and $3 million in 2015, according to NFLPA records.
