Ravens waive fullback Ali

OWINGS MILLS -- The Baltimore Ravens placed fullback Charles Ali on waivers, a roster move prompted by the team moving tight end Edgar Jones to fullback.

The Ravens are also planning to try out undrafted Boston College rookie linebacker Mike McLaughlin at fullback.

A former Arkansas Pine-Bluff player, Ali is a 6-foot-2, 265-pounder who formerly played for the Cleveland Browns.

Before signing with the Ravens, he was with the New York Sentinels in the United Football League.

The Ravens cut Ali on Dec. 12, but signed him to a reserve/future contract on Jan. 22.

The Ravens have Pro Bowl fullback Le'Ron McClain as their starter, but are looking for a backup lead blocker.

Aaron Wilson covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Carroll County Times and the Annapolis Capital.
