The Beat with Aaron Wilson - Ravens meet with Flacco's agent

Written By:
OWINGS MILLS -- The Baltimore Ravens met for the second time with the agent for rookie quarterback Joe Flacco, continuing contract negotiations this week at team headquarters.

The Ravens initially met with Joe Linta, who represents the first-round draft pick, May 12 to begin discussing the structure of an anticipated five-year pact for the 18th overall selection.

"Good meeting, moving forward," Linta said Friday in an e-mail. "Long way to go, but making progress."

Both sides are intent on reaching an agreement so Flacco can report in time to training camp to compete with Kyle Boller and Troy Smith for the starting job.

Linta, who is based in Connecticut, is expected to meet with team officials again in a few weeks.

Flacco was absent from passing camp this week due to an NFL-NCAA rule that prohibits rookies from attending more than one minicamp until their college academic schedule is concluded.

The former Delaware star will be able to attend next week's passing camp as well as an additional passing camp and a rescheduled rookie minicamp that has been dubbed the 'Flacco Camp.'

"The biggest thing is all of the offensive stuff he can catch up on, but reps, it's hard to get those back," coach John Harbaugh said. "We're going to have to try and incorporate as many reps as we can for him."

Aaron Wilson covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Carroll County Times and the Annapolis Capital.

  • 5/24/12: For now, the Ravens are primarily having Paul Kruger lined up at Suggs' rush outside linebacker spot.
  • 5/24/12: Rookie 2nd round pick Kelechi Osemele took the majority of the first-string repetitions at left guard with Jah Reid rotating in at tackle.
