OWINGS MILLS -- The Baltimore Ravens shuffled their scouting department, hiring two new scouts and issuing one promotion.

The Ravens hired former Arizona Cardinals scout and NFL safety Lonnie Young as their West area scout and added former college coach and Miami Dolphins scout Jack Glowik.

“We’re excited to welcome Lonnie and Jack into the Ravens family," Ravens director of college scouting Eric DeCosta said, ""Both come highly recommended and bring impressive resumes.

“Lonnie’s background as a veteran NFL player, and Jack’s history as an outstanding longtime college coach will provide us with different perspectives that make us stronger as a staff.”

Plus, the Ravens promoted player personnel assistant Milt Hendrickson as their Midwest area scout. That assignment shifted Chad Alexander, who had scouted the Midwest for the past three seasons, to the Southeast.

“By promoting Milt, we’ve kept with a familiar theme of developing a young talent and getting him ready to scout an area,” DeCosta said. “Milt is a fine addition on the road, and he’s already proven he’s up to the task.

"His move to the Midwest allows us to shift Chad Alexander to the Southeast.  In the end, we’ve improved our ability to evaluate the college players.”

NOTE: The New York Jets signed former Ravens running back Musa Smith, an unrestricted free agent who wasn't offered a contract by Baltimore.

In five seasons with the Ravens, the former third-round draft pick from Georgia rushed for 496 yards and four touchdowns while catching 27 passes for 363 yards. Smith was initially drafted to succeed Jamal Lewis in the starting lineup, but leg and neck injuries slowed down his career.
