OWINGS MILLS -- Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs is slated to report to team headquarters Sunday, ending the franchise player's three-week hiatus from training camp.
A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Suggs will sign his one-year, $8.472 million franchise tender and then begin practicing Monday.
There are no conditions attached to Suggs' return that would preclude the Ravens from designating him with the franchise tag again following this season. It would cost at least $10 million to tag him again.
Suggs, who has 45 sacks in five seasons, hopes to be able to play about 15 snaps in the Ravens' third preseason game against the St. Louis Rams next week.
Suggs has been working out with a personal trainer on his own, but will need to get into football shape.
"I'm not concerned with Suggs," linebacker Bart Scott said during Suggs' absence. "He's always showed a tremendous ability to be in shape, to be ready to play. He knows he has to be accountable to us when it's time to play.
"The business part is his business. But you never talk about a man and his money. Suggs, rest up and be ready to go when it's time."
Suggs, 25, filed a grievance against the team in the offseason that claimed he played more snaps at defensive end than linebacker.
Ultimately, the team reached a compromise with Suggs' agent, Gary Wichard, for a new hybrid defensive end-linebacker designation that split the compensation level between the top five average salaries at linebacker and defensive end.
The two sides were unable to agree to terms on a long-term contract extension prior to camp despite the Ravens making a lucrative offer.
Under collective bargaining agreement rules governing franchise players, Suggs was entitled to skip training camp without any financial penalties or otherwise. As a franchise player, Suggs doesn't receive a signing bonus.
Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome has reiterated several times that Suggs is in the team's long-term plans.
