OWINGS MILLS -- The Baltimore Ravens have booked Brigham Young quarterback John Beck for a visit next week.

Beck is generally ranked as the fifth-best available quarterback behind LSU’s JaMarcus Russell, Notre Dame’s Brady Quinn, Stanford’s Trent Edwards, who has also visited Baltimore, and Kolb.

Neuheisel attended Beck’s campus workout on March 21.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder is a 25-year old Eagle Scout who spent two years on a Mormon mission in Portugal prior to starting his career at BYU.

A three-year starter who was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year last season after completing 69.3 percent of his throws for 3,885 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions, the major drawbacks on Beck are his age and a lack of ideal arm strength and size.

Scouts have lauded Beck for his intelligence and accuracy. He’s known for his poise in the pocket, sharp play-fakes and for having the ability to look off safeties while going through his receiver progressions.

Beck passed Jim McMahon last season to become BYU’s second all-time leading passer behind Ty Detmer.

NOTE: The Ravens cancelled a scheduled visit with University of Florida defensive end Ray McDonald.
