OWINGS MILLS -- The Baltimore Ravens concentrated on the offensive line Wednesday, bringing in a pair of versatile potential first-round draft picks for visits.
University of Texas offensive tackle/guard Justin Blalock and University of Tennessee offensive tackle/guard Arron Sears visited the Ravens’ training complex and met with general manager Ozzie Newsome and coach Brian Billick.
“The visit went real good,” Sears said in a telephone interview. “They like me a lot. I just want them to know that I’m the best guard out there for them if they want to invest in an offensive lineman.
“I can play tackle or guard, and my confidence is so high that I know I can go into the league and play tackle. It doesn’t matter which position they want me to play.”
Sears is an All-Southeastern Conference selection who has played every position except for center. Last season, the 6-foot-3 1/2, 319-pounder played left tackle and acquitted himself well against elite pass rushers like Florida’s Jarvis Moss and Arkansas’ Jamaal Anderson.
The Ravens turned on the film projector Wednesday with Sears to analyze those two games.
“They wanted to see how I did against great competition,” said Sears, who won the Jacobs Award as the conference’s top blocker. “I’m biased, but I think the SEC is the best football that’s out there.”
Afterward, Sears headed down I-95 to visit the Washington Redskins.
He will visit the Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Rams next week. He has already visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A four-year starter, Blalock has been linked to the Ravens’ 29th overall pick of the first round in multiple mock drafts.
Known as a strong drive blocker at 6-3, 320 pounds, Blalock bench pressed 225 pounds 40 times at the NFL scouting combine. He was named the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year.
“Blalock is a great guard and tackle himself, and the Ravens brought us in to get to know us more,” Sears said. “It’s between me and the Blalock kid. We’ll see what happens.”
NOTES: The Ravens retained exclusive-rights free agent linebacker Dennis Haley. … The Ravens released offensive tackle Daniel Oliphant, a former Division III lineman from Colby University. He was recently released by the Cologne Centurions, an NFL Europe team he was allocated to by the Ravens.
