RAVENS AND SAPP AGREE TO TERMS

OWINGS MILLS – The Baltimore Ravens are on the verge of re-signing safety Gerome Sapp, according to his agent.

The addition of Sapp, a 6-foot-1, 216-pound special-teams standout, would give the Ravens three safeties under contract including starters Ed Reed and Dawan Landry.

"We’re close to working something out with Baltimore," said Scott Smith, Sapp's agent. "It’s a matter of finalizing the contract. We’re pretty close."

Baltimore reacquired Sapp from the Indianapolis Colts last summer in a trade for a conditional draft pick.

Sapp played in 15 games last season, starting one. He registered 12 tackles, two pass deflections, one forced fumbles along with 10 special teams tackles.

The former sixth-round draft pick from Notre Dame was cut by Baltimore in 2004 in a controversial decision where veteran Corey Fuller, a close friend of Ray Lewis and Deion Sanders, was retained instead.
