Nicholls State cornerback visits Ravens

OWINGS MILLS -- Nicholls State (La.) cornerback Ladarius Webb recently visited the Baltimore Ravens, according to his agent.

Besides meeting with Ravens team officials on April 1, the Division I-AA All-American selection has also visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans.

The 5-foot-11, 179-pound defensive back ran the 40-yard dash between 4.35 and 4.45 seconds at the NFL scouting combine, and is projected to be drafted in the fourth or fifth round.

A transfer from Southern Mississippi after being dismissed from the team after running into some off-field issues, Webb excelled at Nicholls State after considering transferring to Auburn or Alabama.

"This is a great kid with big-time ability," said Marc Lillibridge, Webb's agent. "I've talked to personnel guys who've told me that if Webb had stayed at Southern Miss, he would have been a first-round draft pick. The level of competition does hurt him a little, but he's a great athlete with a lot of skill and a big heart."

In a 2007 game, Nichols intercepted three passes in one game against Rice and returned one for a touchdown. In a start at quarterback, Webb rushed for 120 yards and one touchdown on eight carries.

He was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan award.

At the combine, Webb registered a 36 1/2 inch vertical leap, a 10-1 broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times.

Last season, Webb recorded 55 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. He also returned one punt and one kickoff for touchdowns.

Aaron Wilson covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Carroll County Times and the Annapolis Capital.
