OWINGS MILLS -- Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata took part in a voluntary passing camp Wednesday as he returned to the team's training complex to practice for the first time since participating in a mandatory minicamp in May.

Ngata, who entered the NFL after his junior season at the University of Oregon, just finished a semester of classes at the University of Utah and remains a few credits shy of completing his sociology degree requirements.

Also, Ngata's wife is due to give birth next month.

Ngata has been working out with a personal trainer to remain in shape.

In three NFL seasons, the former first-round draft pick has started every game and recorded 149 career tackles, five sacks and three interceptions.

Aaron Wilson covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Carroll County Times and the Annapolis Capital.
