SAN FRANCISCO -- The drought is over for Bart Scott. The Baltimore Ravens' Pro Bowl linebacker notched his first sack of the year during Sunday's 9-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers at Monster Park.
Scott tackled Trent Dilfer in the first quarter when he tried in vain to escape from the pocket. It represents Scott's first sack since last year when he led all NFL inside linebackers with 9 1/2 sacks.
"I missed two," Scott said. "It's been tough sledding. Whenever you have success you get guys' attention. Sometimes, they come in bunches. Maybe I can get back to my sacking ways. Maybe now I'm starting to get a little hot."
Along with Scott, linebacker Jarret Johnson and nose guard Kelly Gregg, the Ravens had three sacks.
Scott has had increased pass-coverage responsibilities this season in the wake of All-Pro linebacker Adalius Thomas' departure with defensive coordinator Rex Ryan calling fewer blitzes than he did a year ago.
"I'm not concerned about that," Scott said. "I'm concerned about being an all-around linebacker. A lot of times people are so concerned about being a blitzing linebacker that they don't concentrate on other parts of their game.
"I love it when teams try to run at me. I don't have to run so far. Just come straight at me."
INJURY UPDATE: Offensive tackle Adam Terry was on crutches after the game following a sprained left ankle. He was uncertain about his status for next week's game against the St. Louis Rams.
"I won't know until later," he said. "It's hurt. Shoot, tape me up and we'll see. I've got no other choice. I've got to take care of my injury and, hopefully, I'll be back next week."
Meanwhile, center Mike Flynn left the game with a sprained right knee and didn't return. Although Flynn said he'll undergo a magnetic resonance imaging exam today, one encouraging sign is that he was able to walk with a slight limp and was available to play on an emergency basis.
"Right now, it's a little stiff," Flynn said. "I got rolled up pretty good and I think I got out as good as I could have. The biggest thing is Monday and Tuesday, how it feels and how I react."
Because rookie return specialist Yamon Figurs was still bothered by a shoulder stinger, Cory Ross handled kickoff duties and safety Ed Reed and Ross handled most of the punts. Figurs had one fair catch on a punt.
"The trainers thought it would be better to be careful with it," Figurs said. "I understand."
INACTIVES: The Ravens deactivated offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden (turf toe), cornerback Samari Rolle (undisclosed illness), cornerback David Pittman, tight ends Todd Heap (hamstring) and Daniel Wilcox (sprained toe), defensive end Trevor Pryce (broken wrist) and linebacker Edgar Jones.
With Heap and Wilcox sidelined, the only healthy tight end was Quinn Sypniewski. He started his first NFL game and took every snap.
"I told him before the game, 'You can't get hurt," Ravens coach Brian Billick said.
Sypniewski followed directions and caught four passes for 28 yards.
"I definitely had some big shoes to fill, but I enjoyed the opportunity," Sypniewski said. "Todd and Dan helped me a lot. It was like I had three coaches. Anything they saw, they kind of relayed it to me."
Asked about Billick's pregame decree, Sypniewski replied: "It definitely rings true. I had to stay healthy."
BIG MEETING: Billick met with 49ers quarterback Trent Dilfer, who publicly apologized last week for holding a grudge against Billick for the Ravens dumping him after their Super Bowl XXXV win.
"It was a very rewarding conversation," Billick said. "I'm very appreciative of him reaching out that way."
Added kicker Matt Stover on Dilfer, who threw one touchdown against his old team: "After the game Trent and I were talking and he said, 'You still got the old leg,' and I said, 'You still got the old arm.' I really appreciate the character Trent brings to the game."
QUOTABLE: Flynn on the narrow victory: "You come to the West Coast and it seems like these games are always a dogfight. It seems like you're always trying to survive. I don't care if it's 50-3 or 9-7, we won. Now, it's just a couple more games to the bye so we can get guys healthy and make a run the last nine games."
SHUTDOWN: The Ravens held 49ers Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore, last year's leading rusher in the NFC, to 52 yards on 16 carries.
"We did a great job on Frank Gore," Lewis said. "Week in and week out, we face great running backs."
Added Gregg: "We wanted to make them one-dimensional. We wanted to force them to throw. If you're able to stop Frank Gore, you can pretty much force them into passing situations."
BOUNCING BACK: Stover nailed three field goals one week removed from missing two in a 27-13 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
"I told Matt on the sidelines, 'Look, if you have to kick five field goals to win, then kick five field goals,'" middle linebacker Ray Lewis said.
QUICK HITS: Rookie middle linebacker Patrick Willis had a dozen tackles for the 49ers.
"He has reached out to me as a mentor," Lewis said. "I told him I can help him a great deal. He's a tremendous athlete.
"In many ways, he reminds me of me when I was young. He's very fast, strong and likes to run around like crazy out there. He has a love for the game."
HOMECOMING: It marked a return to familiar surroundings for wide receiver Demetrius Williams, who grew up a 49ers fan in nearby Concord, Calif.
"I was a fan when they had Joe Montana," Williams said. "Once they got rid of him, I kind of stopped. Coming in here and playing in front of my family is a good feeling, especially because we got the win."
