CLEVELAND -- Willis McGahee ran with purpose, eluding defenders and bulling ahead to eclipse the century mark for the first time since joining the Baltimore Ravens.
However, little of McGahee's 114 yards on 14 carries carried much consequence.
Not with the Ravens losing 27-13 to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday as McGahee, who was acquired in an offseason trade from the Buffalo Bills, got the yards, but not much satisfaction.
"We didn't get the 'W', so it's a bad day all around," McGahee said afterward. "I've got to get better. I've got to make more plays. I've got to be the spark of the team. That's my goal."
His 28-yard cutback run was his most impressive showing in the second quarter, reversing field after starting out on the left side and bursting behind a convoy of blockers nearly down to midfield.
Although McGahee kept the Ravens steadily marching, he wasn't called upon several times when it counted.
Most of the time in the red zone, the Ravens turned toward Musa Smith, McGahee's backup.
When asked if he would like to be used more often, especially inside the 20-yard line, McGahee said: "Oh, I would love to, but we have a two-back rotation going on. Musa is a great back, I'm not taking anything away from him. When my number is called, I got to step up."
Smith was stuffed, though, gaining five yards on five carries while McGahee, who replaced Browns running back Jamal Lewis in Baltimore, averaged 7.4 yards per carry.
Still, Lewis, who was limited to 64 yards on 23 carries for a 2.8 average, scored a touchdown and his team got the win.
"We've just to score," McGahee said. "I've got to put more pressure on me."
