OWINGS MILLS -- Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl fullback Le'Ron McClain hopes to be retained by the AFC North franchise as an unrestricted free agent, but says he understands the business of football could lead him to a new locker room.

"Hopefully, I'll be back in Baltimore and be a Baltimore Raven," McClain told Ravens24x7.com in a telephone interview. "I'm a Raven until someone tells me something different. I'm training hard, getting prepared for camp. I'm prepared for that Owings Mills heat, no shade.

"My goal is to play for whoever wants me next year. Right now, I'm a Baltimore Raven. Hopefully, I'm still here with the guys and getting ready and if things change I'll be ready for that transformation, give my respect to Baltimore and move on. It's always business."

McClain said he's been training hard and has gotten leaner, but wouldn't reveal how much he weighs.

"I'm down, I'm in great shape," he said. "I'm catching like 110 balls a day, doing a lot of different stuff, getting ready, taking my game to another level.

"Explosive, I've been doing everything explosive this year. More fast, more fit, more endurance to be that all-down back."

McClain would like to have the opportunity to play running back and fullback as he did in 2008 when he rushed for a career-high 902 yards and 10 touchdowns.

"I feel like I can play the running back position," he said. "I want that opportunity. I had that opportunity in 2008. The numbers don't lie. That speaks for itself. This year, I'm on a whole different level. It's a new era."

McClain said he'll miss the camaraderie of the locker room if he leaves Baltimore.

"I will miss the locker room, having fun in there," McClain said. "It's crazy. It's a whole new transformation going on. I'm prepared either way, I'm prepared."

McClain is hosting a two-day youth football camp on July 18 at Goucher College for ages 7 through 18.

"The camp going to be teaching how to choose good role models, how to attain goals in life on and off the field," McClain said. "We're going to be teaching teamwork and sportsmanship, going over all things football, team offense and defense, film study. We'll be talking about getting good grades. I want to make a difference."

McClain has also thrown his support behind aiding tornado victims in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Ala.

"I'm looking out the window right now, it's looking better out there now since the tornado came by," said McClain, who has his own reality show on the Internet. "It's still a little hectic, but it's a lot of progress that's been made. Football is going to bring a lot of smiles to the people when that's back."
