OWINGS MILLS -- Former Baltimore Ravens offensive guard Edwin Mulitalo has agreed in principle to a three-year contract with the Detroit Lions.
An eight-year starter for the Ravens and one of the most popular players in team history, Mulitalo will be reunited with former Baltimore offensive line coach Jim Colletto.
Mulitalo, whom Baltimore cut to clear $2 million in salary cap space to make room for running back Willis McGahee, said he also considered the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons.
The Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings demonstrated interest in Mulitalo, but no visit ever occurred.
Mulitalo is recovering well from surgery on his right triceps tendon, which he tore Oct. 1 against the San Diego Chargers. Mulitalo, 32, played in a career-low four games last season and ended last season on injured reserve.
"I have no regrets because I understand the business," said Mulitalo, who played next to All-Pro left tackle Jonathan Ogden for eight seasons after being drafted in the fourth round out of the University of Arizona. "I loved my time in Baltimore, and now it's time for me to find somewhere else to play. Baltimore will always be my home."
