Labor issues could jeopardize camp at McDaniel

NEW ORLEANS -- The labor crisis could cause the Baltimore Ravens to shift practices from McDaniel College in Westminster to their training complex in Owings Mills.

The NFL is currently in a lockout.

"We're going to have to make some decisions if the work stoppage continues about summer training camp," team president Dick Cass said today at the NFL owners meetings. "We don't have to make that decision yet. We're talking to McDaniel College. We're in discussions with them. We'd love to go back to McDaniel. Our fans love it out there and it's a great tradition. Hopefully, we'll be back out there this summer.

"If we can work it out depending on how the schedules work out, we'd like to be back there. It's just a great tradition for Baltimore. It goes back to the Baltimore Colts. A lot of teams are bringing their training camps inside. We don't want to do that. We want to have a place where our fans can have access to our players."

The Ravens' contract with the private liberal arts school has expired, but the team has been in talks with McDaniel vice president of administration and finance Ethan Seidel and a new contract is expected to be worked out eventually.

“I think we're planning on doing more at the stadium any way,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “That was so good last year. We'll probably do it two or three times this year even if we're at McDaniel. I think we're going to come down there more. You hit the segment of your fans downtown that can just walk over or catch the bus.”

I hope this doesn't happen, I can't afford to go to the games since my husband lost his job 2 yrs. ago, and McDaniel's is the next best thing to going to a game, I get to see my guys in person.
