OWINGS MILLS -- After a local radio station reported today that the Baltimore Ravens have had official discussions with the Miami Dolphins about acquiring Dancing with the Stars star/Miami Dolphins All-Pro defensive end Jason Taylor, a quick response was given.
In two words, a team official shot it down.
"Completely false," is how the terse reply went.
While Taylor is looking to get out of Miami given his fractured relationship with Dolphins football czar Bill Parcells and appears preoccupied with his Hollywood aspirations, a more likely destination appears to be the San Diego Chargers.
The Miami Herald reported today that the Chargers have made inquiries to the Dolphins about Taylor.
Geographically, that change of scenery would make sense with the Chargers' relative proximity to Hollywood. Taylor is an excellent football player, but he is 34 and due a $7.5 million base salary this season.
It's hard to think the Ravens would be looking to bring him in since they already have Trevor Pryce and Terrell Suggs and face expensive decisions with Suggs, Ray Lewis, Bart Scott and Jason Brown all entering the final year of their respective contracts.
Plus, Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and Taylor didn't exactly see eye to eye when Cameron was the head coach of the Dolphins during last year's 1-15 campaign. Taylor and Cameron reportedly had a "frosty" relationship.
Could something ultimately develop? Hard to say.
One hunch that makes sense is that Suggs' agent, Gary Wichard, who also represents Taylor, could have brought up Taylor to the Ravens in conversation. It doesn't take much to get the rumor mill going during the long NFL offseason.
For now, it doesn't feel like this one is happening.
