Harbaugh weighs in on Reed's attitude, Bulger acquisition

OWINGS MILLS -- As far as Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh is concerned, there's nothing to be concerned about when it comes to star free safety Ed Reed's attitude.

Reed has complained about his contract not being addressed and has referenced vaguely a lack of support from the team. It's believed that Reed is citing communication issues related to his hip surgery and rehabilitation.

"I know he loves to play," Harbaugh said in a 105.7 The Fan interview "I know he loves the Ravens. I know he's going to be there when he can be."

Harbaugh said he has a close football relationship with the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

"We've had lots of conversations about a lot of things," Harbaugh said. "He has a good heart. He cares about the Ravens. I think he cares about his legacy as a football player. I believe he's a first-ballot Hall of Famer. I think he wants to finish strong. ..

"The thing I shared with him is we, as a coaching staff, want to do everything we can to help him be the best player he can be as he finishes his career. I know he wants that. All the other stuff is best addressed one-on-one, face-to-face. That's what he and I agreed on when we talked on the phone. We will talk about it when he gets in, and we will. I'm sure we'll get a lot of things worked out."

Meanwhile, Harbaugh weighed in on the backlash from the signing of new backup quarterback Marc Bulger after Reed and starter Joe Flacco took issue with how Bulger's presence affects Troy Smith.

Harbaugh downplayed the issue.

"I don't think there's anything to it as far as it being an issue for our football team," Harbaugh said. "Having Marc Bulger makes us better, and our players know that. Sometimes guys will make statements to support their teammates and guys they become friends with. I know Joe feels good about Marc Bulger being a part of it. He respects him, and he knows he's going to learn a lot from him."

Now I love Harbaugh. Infact i was the first website writer that set he was my choice over all possible choices. But....He sounds more like a PR guy and Billick each year. Come on John, Reed does not sound like a "RAVEN"! he sounds like a bitter, troubled player who is about to make team chemstry and your job tougher. A hardline approach by both you and Ozzie are needed and a possible release or trade should be highly considered here. Flacco did not say anything close to what you think he feels. Taking up for teammates when players who are better are obtained may be the norm but talking to the press about bad team chemstry and saying negative things about a new fellow player is uncall for even by your starting QB!
