The Beat with Aaron Wilson - Greisen making the rounds

Greisen making the rounds
OWINGS MILLS -- The Baltimore Ravens have been silent in free agency so far due to a tight salary-cap situation, and it has been relatively quiet in regards to their own unheralded class of unrestricted free agents.

So far, backup middle linebacker Nick Greisen has generated the most action. He has met with the Cleveland Browns and is expected to visit the Seattle Seahawks today.

A meeting with the Atlanta Falcons by the end of the week is tentatively on his itinerary.

The Ravens have remained in contact with Greisen and are believed to have some interest in re-signing him.

No deal is imminent.

Last season, Greisen recorded 38 tackles and one fumble recovery. Plus, he registered 13 special-teams tackles.

Meanwhile, the agent for running back Musa Smith said he doesn't currently have any visits scheduled.

"We're in a wait-and-see mode with Musa," said Jack Reale, Smith's agent. "Musa's a good football player and he would love to be back with Baltimore. Hopefully, something can be worked out."

It has been a similar situation for other Baltimore free agents, including safety Gerome Sapp, wide receiver Devard Darling and return specialist B.J. Sams.

The Ravens opted to not retain a pair of exclusive-rights free agents: quarterback Cullen Finnerty (Grand Valley State) and defensive tackle Amon Gordon (Stanford).

NOTES: Michigan State wide receiver Devin Thomas, a 6-foot-2, 216-pound senior with 4.38 speed in the 40-yard dash who's rated among the top five wideouts, met with the Ravens at the NFL scouting combine. ...

Louisville tight end Gary Barnidge met with Ravens team officials at the combine, too, along with Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco and University of San Diego quarterback Josh Johnson.

Aaron Wilson covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Carroll County Times and the Annapolis Capital.
