The Beat with Aaron Wilson - Chris Chester could be out for two weeks with cellulitis

Written By:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Baltimore Ravens starting offensive guard Chris Chester might be out for the next week or two after being diagnosed with cellulitis, according to coach John Harbaugh.

Chester was hospitalized Thursday after sustaining a high fever due to a cut that brought on the serious bacterial skin infection, and didn’t make the trip with the team for the Ravens’ 37-13 rout of the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

"Chris had cellulitis, so he's probably going to be a week or two until everything calms down,” Harbaugh said. “We just have to wait and see how he responds."

Chester had started the first nine games of the regular season before being stricken with the illness.

According to medical journals, cellulitis can be caused by cuts. Symptoms typically involve swelling, warmth, pain and high fevers. The infection can spread rapidly to the lymph nodes or blood stream.

“The fever is going down,” Harbaugh said. "They went back a second time and cleaned it out because his fever spiked."

Harbaugh said that he thought Chester was out of the hospital, but wasn’t certain.

Harbaugh was complimentary of Moll, a former Green Bay Packers fifth-round draft pick.

"Tony looked like he played well, from what I can tell,” Harbaugh said.

Moll acknowledged being rusty, but thought he held up well generally. He delivered some solid blocks, knocking down a few defenders on running plays to his side.

This game marked Moll's first start at right guard since Sept. 21, 2008, and his first start since joining the Ravens last year in a trade for defensive back Derrick Martin.

"It's always a good thing to start,” Moll said. “It's been a while since I've done that. I'm just shaking off the rust, getting rid of that little butterfly feeling before the game.

“I think I did a decent job. You never know until you watch the film, though. You can take all the plays you want in practice, but there’s nothing that compares to playing on Sunday."
