OWINGS MILLS -- As the haggling continues for Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin, the Arizona Cardinals denied that they've fielded trade offers or that their initial demand was for a first-round pick and a third-round pick.
There are growing indications that the Cardinals now might be amenable to swapping the former Florida State star for a first-round draft pick and a player, according to reports. It's certainly no fire sale, but the development could increase the possibility that the Baltimore Ravens could wind up with Boldin.
The Ravens hold the 26th overall pick of the first round.
"Quite a few teams have called, but we have no offers," Cardinals general manager Rod Graves told Arizona reporters during a Tuesday press conference. "Anything can evolve from this point through draft day. We haven't specified what we're looking for, or anything along those lines."
Although the Cardinals have been open about the fact that the disgruntled wideout is on the trading block, it's a stretch to think that they would confirm details about trade discussions publicly.
"It would certainly have to be for commensurate value," Graves said when asked what it would take to trade Boldin.
The New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants are the other teams linked to Boldin talks, according to ESPN.
For the second week in a row, the Cardinals emphasized that they would rather keep Boldin on the roster than trade him.
"We're not proactively trying to trade Anquan," Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said.
Boldin is unhappy with a contract that expires following the 2010 season.
The Ravens' lack of salary-cap space with roughly $1.5 million currently available is a fairly significant obstacle because Boldin wants a lucrative contract extension worth perhaps as much as $8 million to $9 million annually.
When asked if Boldin is being devalued around the league, Graves replied: "I don't know if that's any indication of the way the rest of the league sees Anquan. I just think that there is time between now and draft day. Many teams have been finishing up the draft boards. ... Our objective all along was to weigh the interest in Anquan and weigh that against the option of extending (his contract). The ultimate goal is to do what's in the best interest of the team."
