Brigance to chair 5K run
OWINGS MILLS -- Baltimore Ravens director of player development O.J. Brigance will act as the honorary chair for a 5K race Saturday to benefit amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research, the team announced.

Brigance, who was diagnosed with the fatal disease two years ago, Ravens coach John Harbaugh, team president Dick Cass and other members of the organization are scheduled to attend the second annual Packard's Center Fiesta 5K & Fun Run at M&T Bank Stadium.

"We are proud to be associated with this event and help with the fight against ALS," Cass said in a statement. “O.J. is an amazing inspiration not only to our organization, but to everybody who has been affected by this disease.

"His strength, dedication and determination have touched so many people. It’s an honor for us to stand beside him and everyone else who continues to fight this courageous battle."

More than 1,000 participants are scheduled to participate with Harbaugh issuing the opening remarks and the race followed by a special presentation with Brigance. Harbaugh is set to run in the race, too.

Brigance played linebacker for the Ravens on their Super Bowl championship team, also playing for the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams during seven seasons in the NFL. He was also a member of the CFL's Baltimore Stallions, winning a Grey Cup championship.

Aaron Wilson covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Carroll County Times and the Annapolis Capital.
