Billick: 'It's in my blood'
OWINGS MILLS -- In his first interview since he was fired by team owner Steve Bisciotti, former Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick briefly discussed his future.

During an appearance on the “Inside the NFL” program on HBO this week, Billick said he had no immediate plans after being dismissed Dec. 31.

“Right now, I’m just going to go back to skiing when I’m done here,” Billick said. “I know that’s very short-term. It is a transition for me.

“I’m kind of excited about the future for what it holds. But right now, we’ll just see what comes our way.”

Billick’s name was immediately linked to offensive coordinator openings, including the San Francisco 49ers’ job that went to Mike Martz, but he didn’t meet with any potential NFL employers. Under contract to the Ravens for the next three years with a $5 million annual salary that Bisciotti has said he’ll honor, Billick is in a position where he doesn’t have to work again if he chooses.

Billick, who coached the Ravens for nine seasons with one Super Bowl title, indicated that he’s inclined to coach again, though.

“I love this game, I’m not going to get too far away from it any capacity that I have,” Billick said. “It’s in my blood. Once it’s in your blood, it’s hard to get away from.

“It’s one of those things, right circumstance, right situation. We’re all lying because when one is offered, you usually take it. But I’m old enough that I can be a little more discerning.”

Aaron Wilson covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Carroll County Times and the Annapolis Capital.
