OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens listed seven players as questionable on their initial injury report, including key starters such as running back Jamal Lewis (hip), safety Ed Reed (thigh), tight end Todd Heap (back) and center Mike Flynn (ankle).
None of the players are believed to be at risk of not being available Sunday against the Oakland Raiders with the possible exception of defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin (thigh), who didn’t practice.
Running back P.J. Daniels (thigh), kicker Matt Stover (back) and tight end Daniel Wilcox (back) are also listed as questionable.
Overall, Ravens coach Brian Billick sounded impressed about his team’s first practice since dispatching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-0 in the season opener.
“This was really an excellent, excellent Wednesday,” Billick said. “Tempo was good, focus was good. I liked what we did.”
Meanwhile, cornerback Nmandi Asomugha (foot, questionable) is the most prominent Oakland player listed as questionable.
Quarterback Aaron Brooks has a sore knee, but is regarded as probable and Raiders coach Art Shell said his status isn’t a concern.
TRANSACTIONS: The Ravens signed defensive tackle Atiyyah Ellison, a 6-foot-3, 318-pounder from Missouri, to the practice squad. He replaced defensive tackle Lorenzo Alexander. The Ravens tried out three other tackles: Jon Dunn (Virginia Tech), Jabari Levy (South Carolina) and Chris Pino (San Diego State).
QUICK HITS: Billick acknowledged the Raiders’ infamous hard-edged reputation. “I don’t know who has the worst rep, them or us,” he said. “Yeah, there is a persona. I like Dan Fouts’ comment. He said, ‘The Raiders aren’t evil, it’s their tailor that’s evil.’ There is a certain rough and tough attitude that they come in with and we need to wear these guys out in the fourth quarter." … Billick discounted gaining an advantage because the Raiders have to fly cross-country following their 27-0 loss Monday to the San Diego Chargers. “We all have to travel in some form or fashion,” he said. “Planes go pretty fast. Sitting on an airplane for five or six hours isn’t all that tough. We’ve had to do it. We are certainly not looking at that as an advantage.”
