5 KEYS TO THE GAME 5 KEYS TO THE GAME
1. Baltimore Ravens free safety Ed Reed read Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson's eyes and jumped a pass intended for wide receiver Braylon Edwards, parlaying his instincts into a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown. The score led the undefeated Ravens (2-0) to a 28-10 victory Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium, dropping their AFC North rival into an 0-3 cavern. It marked the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year's franchise-high 35th career interception and his fourth touchdown return, staking the Ravens to a 21-10 lead in the third quarter. Earlier in the game, cornerback Chris McAlister intercepted another Anderson pass when middle linebacker Ray Lewis popped the football away from tight end Kellen Winslow on a big hit that tipped the ball into the air to McAlister. Samari Rolle notched a late interception as the Ravens shut down Edwards and Winslow, the Browns' top playmakers.

2. Bullish fullback Le'Ron McClain continued his bulldozing ways, rumbling for two touchdowns and rushing for 66 yards on 17 carries. McClain also set up running back Willis McGahee's five-yard touchdown, his first of the season since returning from arthroscopic left knee surgery. McClain's 17-yard cutback run got the Ravens down to the Browns' 4-yard line. McClain scored on a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs, powering up the20middle for scores. The 6-foot, 260-pound runner flunked the team's conditioning test when he reported to training camp, but has lost 18 pounds since showing up out of shape. In his first game back, McGahee rushed for 64 yards on 15 carries despite a cut on his eyelid that forced him out of the game twice.

3. Rookie quarterback Joe Flacco overcame throwing the first interceptions of his NFL career, but nearly had four turnovers. The first-round draft pick threw his first interception to Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson in the first quarter when he short-armed a throw meant for tight end Todd Heap in heavy coverage. After a lateral from McGahee, Flacco heaved a prayer into triple coverage toward Derrick Mason that was intercepted by Browns safety Mike Adams for a touchback. Another interception was nullified due to a defensive holding penalty, and Flacco had a near interception dropped by defensive lineman Corey Williams. Flacco completed 13 of 19 passes for 129 yards and no touchdowns.

4. Two-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker Terrell Suggs won his pivotal encounter with Browns Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas, sacking Anderson twice and keeping the former Baltimore quarterback under constant harassment. Anderson was sacked four times as Suggs displayed some entertaining dance moves in celebration.

5. With return specialist Yamon Figurs scratched from the lineup due to a hamstring injury and strong safety Dawan Landry carted off the field and taken to the hospital, veteran Jim Leonhard filled in admirably on both fronts. He averaged 26 yards on three kickoff returns and had a 21-yard punt return. Defensively, he sacked Anderson on a safety blitz.

Aaron Wilson covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Carroll County Times and the Annapolis Capital.
