NFL News & Notes: Ngata Honolulu bound? NFL News & Notes: Ngata Honolulu bound?

Cardinals: Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley is considered this year’s top prospect to fill a head coaching position in 2009 – an offseason that isn’t shaping up to be very promising for Arizona.  Anquan Boldin probably will leave and Kurt Warner is a free agent and this all might point towards a “must win now” situation for Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt…Ravens: Haloti Ngata is having a Pro Bowl type of season, but to be an AFC starter he’ll have to win over the voters, players and coaches when they compare his season to the likes of the Titans’ Albert Haynesworth, the Jets’ Kris Jenkins, and the Browns’ Shaun Rogers. Only 2 are chosen, and given the Titans’ success and the accolades being bestowed upon Haynesworth, the behometh Titan is the likely starter. Rogers plays for a bad Cleveland team so he may not be seriously considered…

Cowboys: Running back Felix Jones is now lost for the year because of his injury, rookie Tashard Choice will start getting more carries to give Marion Barber a rest here and there…Lions: The winless Lions have the 10-1 Titans at home on Thanksgiving, after that the Vikings come in, then they are at the Colts, home against the Saints , before they are off to Green Bay to finish the year. They could be the NFL’s first 0-16 team, the 1982 Colts in a strike shortened year went 0-8-1 and of course the famous 1976 Buccaneers went 0-14.  The Lions would join them as the only winless teams in the modern era of pro football; the good news is they still have to play the Vikings. In 2001 the 0-12 Lions earned their first win of that season against the Vikings at home 27-24….Packers: Former first round pick linebacker AJ Hawk seems like he has no idea of what he is doing now that he has moved from the weak side to the middle for the injured Nick Barnett, the Packers have no playoff chances without better play from Hawk

Houston: Although they held the Browns to just 2 field goals this week, defensive coordinator Richard Smith could be replaced soon, defensive backs coach Ray Rhodes a former NFL head coach or linebacker coach Johnny Holland would be promoted…Jaguars: Free agent cornerback Drayton Florence is perhaps the biggest disappointment in what has been a completely dismal year for the Jaguars, he was signed for six years at over $35 million and he was to provide man cover skills but defensive line injuries have dictated zone coverage schemes and Florence has been slow to catch on…Dolphins: WR Greg Camarillo has been lost for the year with a knee injury, he was leading the team with 55 receptions and was considered one of the team leaders in the locker room…Raiders: The silver and black has scored just 50 points since Tom Cable took over as head coach, they had 31 against the Broncos this week and quarterback JaMarcus Russell  had by far the best game of his short career

Eagles: Word is that head coach Andy Reid had the blessing of Eagles’ ownership in the benching of Donovan McNabb, something that sources close to 24x7 said was in the works following the previous week’s tie with the Bengals.  The only reason McNabb is starting this week due to the short week of preparation and Kolb’s inept play in Baltimore.  McNabb should thank Ed Reed…Patriots: Matt Cassell will be the most sought after and highest paid free agent this off season, even though Kurt Warner is also as a free agent.  Cassell will not return to New England to back up Tom Brady next year.  Cassell has thrown for six scores over the past 2 weeks, and will have his choice of teams to choose from starting with the Vikings. Also don’t be surprised if the Patriots are ready to part ways with some of their high paid veteran linebackers. Rookie Jerod Mayo and former free agent Pierre Woods are having great seasons and the Patriots feel both deserve to start.
