The Fighting Ungers:

Station: 1570 AM

Slot: Weekdays 6 - 8 PM / Saturdays 8 – 11 AM

National Media partner: Fox Sports Radio

Styling: Honda Element

Overview:  The Fighting Ungers show is a mix of comedy and sports talk.  After listening several times I am still not sure what the outcome is when sports and comedy collide.  There are two things you can count on when tuning in to this show; the weekend schedule at Magooby’s Joke House, and learning something that tortured one of the brothers during childhood. These guys are funny and they do talk sports, but their style makes it often sound as if the show is just a vehicle for practicing a new standup routine while tossing in some local sports along the way.

Star rating:  6.5

Performance & Handling: The handling in this vehicle is intermittent. Punch the gas and sometimes the engine will respond and other times it will be sluggish and leave you disappointed. This ride won’t win you any drag race, nor will it take you off road.

Star rating:  6.5

Standard features:  Caller interaction is frequently sparse and the analysis is usually not very detailed.  The commentary and banter between the brothers is often funny, but a standard navigation system should be included when the vehicle veers off topic and the hosts let toddlers take over the microphone and spout such shining words as, “Troy Smith stinks!” Not exactly insightful radio.

Star rating:  6.0

Accessories: Previews of the weekend acts at Magooby’s Joke House. Tangents on music and debates on Great American writers.

Star rating:  5.0

Buyer beware: If you want to find a good joke or two about the local sports scene then give this show a try. If you are looking for some serious sports talk I would suggest tuning down the dial.

Star rating:  6.0

Recommendation: This model is moderately functional and might surprise you now and then.  But who really wants to be seen driving around in a Honda Element? Whenever I see one of these on the road I just have to stop and laugh.

Star rating:  6.5

Overall score out of 60: 36.5
