GRAPEVINE - MCNAIR SNUBBED BY TITANS

Sending Pro Bowler away from Baptist Sports Park

MCNAIR SNUBBED BY TITANS
Steve McNair reported to the Titans Baptist Sports Park to work out today just as he’s done many times before.  The difference this time is that Titans’ officials turned him away according to The Tennessean.

McNair’s agent Bus Cook was obviously upset by the unexpected turn of events.
“I have never seen anything like that in my life. They can sugarcoat it any way they want to, but when you throw your starting quarterback off the property, an MVP, Pro Bowl guy who led them to the Super Bowl and one of the greatest players in the history of the team. To just to throw him out? After this, I don’t think Steve would want to go back any more."

According to The Tennessean Titans Coach Jeff Fisher declined comment and Titans General Manager Floyd Reese failed to return several messages.
With his contract situation unsettled, indications are the Titans are concerned about McNair getting injured. If that happens, they’d be liable for the $9 million in base salary he’s scheduled to make in 2006.

Emotions aside, perhaps it genuinely is business and money that influenced the decision.  Either way, it could be that this situation is unfolding exactly how Ozzie Newsome anticipated.

Meanwhile,  Adam Schefter of NFL.com, reports the Baltimore Ravens were the only team to speak with free agent QB Kerry Collins (Raiders) about playing in 2005. However, the Ravens were not offering Collins enough money to make it worth his while, which could force him into thinking retirement.

Yesterday the Ravens re-signed exclusive-rights free agents Thatcher Szalay (Center) and Matt Katula (Long Snapper) to one-year tenders of $425,000 and $350,000 respectively.  Katula you may recall participated in our Diaries of an NFL Rookie segment during Summer Camp last season.
