"Everybody keeps talking about Ozzie coming back and being and AD," Newsome said. "I just want to come back and work at Alabama. I don't have to be the AD. On a Saturday afternoon during the season, there's only one thing I want to do -- watch Alabama football or to know what's happening if I'm on the road or something and can't watch it.
"People keep talking about me being the AD. If there's the opportunity to come back maybe to be the janitor at the University of Alabama, hey, I'll take that." ~ As reported by the Alabama Press Register.
Hold tight Eric DeCosta!
Ed Reed may not have shown up for the Ravens’ recent non-mandatory OTA’s but he has been to his alma mater high school to support them and other charitable causes. According to NOLA.com, Reed has partnered with Valero Energy Corporation to organize the first Ed Reed/Valero St. Charles Golf Classic, which will be held July 2 at Belle Terre Country Club in LaPlace.
Proceeds will go to the Ed Reed Eye of the Hurricane Foundation, which helps needy families in the St. Charles Parish area, as well as in Baltimore.
“What happens in Tennessee stays in Tennessee.” That sounds like something similar to what you might hear prior to a weekend bachelor party in Las Vegas. This gem was provided by Steve McNair. But what would anyone really expect him to say after his arrest for a DUI with consent? Would you want your personal matters to be tried in the court of public opinion? The reality is that such a trial is already under way but why give such a speculative trial more fuel for the fire? McNair handled the media like the seasoned professional he is. I do wonder thought what his response to the Nashville media might have been.
This in from the NFL Gridiron Gab: "Things may finally be looking up for Cleveland during this off season. The signing of former Baltimore Ravens running back Jamal Lewis, was a masterstroke finally bringing in the featured back that this team has so desperately needed since their inception."
Hey, Marshall Faulk is available and would probably be equally as effective, maybe even more so. Plus we would enjoy the added benefit of getting Faulk off the NFL Network set.
Staying with the Browns, word is former Raven Gary Baxter is determined to do something rarely accomplished in the NFL – return from two torn PCL’s. "My rehab is going great," he said. "If things continue to progress and continue to go as planned, I will be back for the 2007 season." Our best wishes go out to Gary and his determined efforts.
One Raven speaking on the condition of anonymity told me that one of the league’s biggest whiners is Browns' WR Braylon Edwards. Recently acknowledging as much in a subtle way Edwards said, "This year I want to be the guy that they drafted," Edwards said. "I want to be what Romeo Crennel deserves. I want to be what the city expects me to be." Here in Baltimore we prefer that Edwards and his pass catching partner Kellen Winslow never alter their crybaby behavior. To borrow from Billy Joel, “We love you just the way you are.”
