The Ravens escaped Cleveland with a win and no injuries on the O-line for the 3rd straight game. Over that span, Flacco has a passer rating of 104.1 and the Ravens have scored 31 points per game. While the Ravens rolled up an impressive 429 yards of offense (6.0 per play) Sunday, the interior line got pushed around by Shaun Rogers.

The starters played every snap and allowed 2 sacks plus 1 other QH. They were not charged with any penalties. The Ravens ran 39 times for 195 yards (5.0 YPC) after taking kneel downs into consideration.

Individual Notes:

Gaither: Excellent game, primarily against Wimbley and Smith. He missed 4 blocks on the 1st 2 series, then made all but 1 the rest of the game. Run push was again very good and he had a lead block pulling on the team’s first offensive play. He had 4 level 2 blocks and I counted 3 pancakes. For the 2nd straight game, the Ravens were not effective running left (16/30, 1.9) Scoring: 65/70 blocks, 5 missed, 65 points (.93 per play).

Grubbs: It was Ben’s worst game of the year as he was pushed around by Rogers more than Brown or Chester. He pulled 5 times, but only found a block on 3. On the last of those, he actually tripped up Rice on 3rd and 1 (Q4, 11:08). He recorded 5 level 2 blocks, but his straight-ahead run push was again unexceptional. He twice allowed penetration to Rogers which resulted in tackles for loss. He allowed Rogers’ slow developing sack (Q2, 0:46). And Rogers collapsed the pocket while blocked by all 3 inside linemen (Q3, 6:00). Jackson got the sack, but it was Rogers flush that caused it. Scoring: 60/70 blocks, 6 missed, 1 and 1/3rd sack, 2 penetrations, 48 points (.69 per play).

Brown: Jason was the most effective of the 3 interior linemen. He made 8 level 2 blocks and 2 pancakes. The Ravens were only effective when they ran up the middle (19/156, 8.2 YPC) despite the presence of Rogers. Scoring: 67/70 blocks, 1 missed, 1/3rd sack, ½ penetration, 64 points (.91 per play).

Chester: Chester had his 2nd straight poor game. On the plus side he had 7 level 2 blocks and went 6/7 on his pulls. He was also pancaked twice. Scoring 64/70 blocks, 2 missed, 1 ½ penetrations, 1/3rd sack, 1 QH (Rogers), 56 points (.80 per play). Last year this might have seemed like a good game for a Raven lineman.

Anderson: The Ravens all but stopped running right against the Browns (3 times for 8 yards). Many folks will remember Rice’s 60-yard burst by where he was pushed out, but the run began over right guard (which is middle). Level 2 blocks? I’m not sure that would even be possible if it was not a draw or screen. He’s not what I expected as a blocker. I expected a mauling run blocker who could move enough to be effective, but he’s an elephant who makes pass blocks with very minimal contact. Scoring: 66/70 blocks, 66 points (.94 per play).

Terry: Entered for 9 plays and made all his blocks. The only pass was the incompletion to Ngata in the end zone. His run push was good and he was on the field as the Ravens gained their final 11 yards on 3 plays to convert before their last 2 victory kneels. (1.00 per play).

Ngata: He was again inserted for 3 plays, this time with mixed results. His first play was something special (as he entered at LTE, pancaked D’Qwell Jackson and then pushed Davis backwards as McClain rolled left into the end zone. He reentered for 2 plays after Rice’s 60-yard run. First, he went out for a pass as tackle eligible, but was well covered. Then he slipped off the line, allowing half a penetration (Chester got the other half) that forced the Ravens to settle for Stover’s FG.

Special Formations: The Ravens ran their unbalanced formation 9 times (5 left and 4 right) for just 11 yards (1.2). They ran the 7-man line three times (all goal line) and the 6-man line 6 times.
