Behind the Numbers - Red zone means dead zone for Cameron's offense

Team rises to top of AFCN while Cameron's unit sinks

Red zone means dead zone for Cameron's offense

Our friend, the vertical passing game, only stayed for one week. His quick exit left QB Joe Flacco with a horrid stat line and the Ravens wide receiving corps with cold hands. Flacco was 10/31 for 163 yards with one interception and one fumble against the Jets. He completed only three passes to the wide receivers.

While the offense did just enough not to waste a defensive effort for the ages by putting up 13 points, it did not leave a feeling of accomplishment before heading into the bye week.

The offense is gaining its yards between the 20s and struggling in the red zone. While they rank 14th in red zone attempts per game with 3.8, they rank 26th in conversion percentage through four games and over the last three games the Ravens have the lowest conversion rate in the NFL at 22.2%.

If the offense received a grade at the quarter mark it would be a C+.  The potential is there to reach the “A” level, but the teacher and his students need to do some extra work.

BTN will track the progress here on a weekly basis. Keep in mind for some categories a decrease is positive, as in the case of Fumbles lost, and an increase is negative, in as the case of Penalties.

These stat's are affected by the lack of experience in our receivers. The Jet game only had one receiever - Boldin who had more than (10) catches in his career. Until the rookies learn and we can get Evans back teams will take away Boldin. Dickson needs to catch every ball and Pitta needs to be used more OR we need to do better w/ the running attack which is also affected by the lack of continuity in the O line. Hopefully when/if we get Grubbs and Evans back and the rook's learn things should improve considerably.
