Joe Flacco leading a fourth quarter game winning drive wasn’t something new. Joe Flacco beating the Steelers in Pittsburgh had been done before. But a come from behind victory over a Ben Roethlisberger lead team at Heinz Field was territory previously unconquered by the Ravens quarterback.
In a game that saw the Ravens held to just 67 yards rushing, Flacco had no choice but to put the offense on his back and carry the load against a Steelers defense that hadn’t allowed more than 17 points at home all season. The key stat for the offense was a season-high 14 of 21 third down conversions.
With 2:24 remaining and 92 yards of torn turf in front of him, Joe Flacco calmly took the Ravens on their best drive of the year. On the final possession he went 7 of 13 for 92 yards that culminated with a 26-yard touchdown pass to WR Torrey Smith. Not only was the drive a signature moment in Flacco’s young career, it was a stepping stone in the evolution of the fourth-year starter.
